Remote Online Medical Consultation on Shoulder Surgery

The Shoulder Center regularly offers a remote online medical consultation on the diagnosis or treatment of shoulder problems or shoulder surgery.

shoulder pain A "remote online medical consultation" in medicine is when a patient - or a physician - has another out-of-area physician evaluate a patient to determine either the diagnosis of the problem (or lack thereof), or on the treatment to be performed. This could be in person, by mailing information, or online/email. This is very common in medicine, especially with "super specialists", and a patient should have no qualms about seeking a remote online medical consultation, or worry that it will offend the first physician, particularly if the treatment will involve taking drugs or having surgery. Very, very few physicians begrudge their patient getting a remote online medical consultation, and may be the ones to suggest it in the first place. Physicians commonly get remote online medical consultation from each other about their patients, either formally or informally. This is especially common today in radiology, where all the X-rays, CAT scans and MRIs are read and reported-upon by a remote team of specialist radiologists. Some critical-care units in small and rural hospitals actually use a form of robot, with a nurse in attendance, to monitor patients by remote hospitalists whom never actually meet the patient in the hospital while rendering care.

We will work with you to provide a comprehensive and accurate diagnosis, and a treatment plan, and including surgery at the time of visit if needed, to allow you to return to your regular routine as quickly as possible. To make the most of your remote online medical consultation at The Shoulder Center please bring or forward in advance:

copies of any previous x-rays, MRI scans, or CT scans of your shoulder(s) Please bring the actual films and the report. These will need to be requested from your physician, and may be sent directly by them to us.
copies of the operative reports and/or clinic notes for any previous shoulder surgeries.
a list of your current medications, including dosages and frequency.

Although there is no replacement for an in-person clinical evaluation, you may benefit from an online second opinion if you are unsure whether travelling to Indianapolis for an in-person evaluation at The Shoulder Center will be right for you. Dr. Agrawal will phone or e-mail you to discuss your case and for which -if any- surgical procedures would best benefit you.
